AWARD WINNING KITCHEN

“A visual delight and a chef’s envy”

This sleek, contemporary design hides a hardworking kitchen for an avid cook and busy family. The goals were to create a light, contemporary space, more storage, (for 192 spices and cooking condiments) larger appliances, eating area… and keep the same footprint and windows.

The contemporary stair step cabinets were designed to inset into a wall created by the stairway. This added a wall of storage in a previously underutilized space.

Good design is always collaboration between the designer and the client. The client wanted stainless steel countertops by the cook top. They are easy care and will develop a patina over time. Combined with the 36” gas range and stainless steel hood surrounded by marble tile, the cooking area would be the envy of any chef and created the design statement we were looking for.

The stainless finish is mirrored on the glass doors of the wall cabinets, then contrasted and warmed by maple cabinets and the rich colors of typhoon bordeaux granite. The marble backsplash repeats this scheme with inserts of bordeaux colored glass. The maple cabinets are contrasted by the Brazilian cherry flooring.

Visual space and light were added by opening the wall to the dining room. The opening was designed to save the cove ceiling and define the rooms. Internal conveniences are the key to keep appliances and ingredients within reach.

“A visual delight and a chef’s envy.”
